You already know how powerful a perfect blowout is if you’ve ever left the salon feeling polished, confident, and put together. I still think that a salon blowout is one of the best beauty expenditures you can make, even after 25 years behind the chair and owning The Clip Joint.
In the following sections, I’ll explain what a salon blowout actually is, how long it lasts, why pricing differs, and how to obtain the best results for hair that is shoulder-length or longer.
What is a Salon Blowout?
A blowout in a salon is more than simply a blow-dry. When you come to The Clip Joint for a hair blowout, we start by washing your hair well. If your hair truly needs it, we might wash it twice. We’re using high-quality products that are right for your hair type. Not that 2-in-1 thing you got at the store.
Here’s where the magic happens after we condition and towel-dry your hair. We utilize a heat protectant because we care about your hair’s long-term health, not only for that quick morning routine. Then you put in the leave-in conditioner or style cream. This is what makes the difference between “my hair looks nice” and “did you just step out of a magazine?”
The real styling? That’s when 23 years of experience come in handy. We cut your hair into sections on purpose, not just randomly snatching pieces like most people do at home. We’re using a round brush (the proper size for your hair length and style) to pay attention to each part. We’re also directing the heat down to smooth out your cuticle instead of making it frizzy.
How long do blowouts last?
One of the most common questions we get at the front desk. The honest answer is that it normally takes 3 to 5 days, although it can take more if you’re careful. The type of hair you have, the amount of humidity, how much you touch your hair, and how well you sleep all determine how long it lasts. Fine hair might go flat more quickly, whereas thicker hair tends to keep its shape longer. You can typically make your blowout last longer by using a good dry shampoo and sleeping on a silk pillowcase.
How Much Is a Blowout at a Salon?
Our blowouts at The Clip Joint start at $45. In Las Vegas, a salon blowout usually costs between $40 and $75, depending on where the salon is and how long your hair is.
I’d be worried if someone wanted $25 for a blowout. It costs money to buy professional products. Stylists who are good at what they do should be paid fairly. A $25 blowout probably suggests that something is being done wrong.
But what if you’re paying $100 or more for a simple blowout at a hair salon? You can be paying too much unless you’re in a resort or getting a lot of extras.
Most salons charge between $45 and $55 for a blowout with hair that is shoulder-length. It could cost a little extra to get longer hair because there is more of it to work with. It might be a little less for shorter hair.
But when people ask me about prices, I advise them to think about how much they spend on that blowout compared to how much they spend on their everyday coffee or that streaming service they hardly use. A salon blowout that lasts four to five days? You can look and feel great for less than $10 a day.
What Does a Blowout Include?
Every salon blowout in our chairs includes:
The Consultation: We really do talk to you. What kind of look are you looking for? Do you have an event coming up? What do you do with your hair? Does humidity bother you? These inquiries aren’t just for small talk; they help us make your service better.
The Wash: a good shampoo (or two) and conditioner. People make appointments only for the scalp massage that Araceli performs while shampooing.
The Prep: Heat protectant, leave-in treatments, and styling products that are right for your hair type and the look you want.
The Styling: This is where the real skill comes in. Strategic sectioning, using the right brush, controlling the heat, and honestly? Some magic.
The Finishing: Use a light hairspray or serum to hold everything in place, and then blow cool air on your hair to seal your cuticle and add shine.
The Education: We’ll show you how to keep it up. What products to use, how to sleep on them, and when to use dry shampoo. We want you to get the most out of your blast.
Other salons charge more for the wash or for other ways of styling hair. Not here. When we say “salon blowout,” we mean the whole thing.
Types of Blowouts (So You Get Exactly What You Want)
At The Clip Joint, we offer different finishes:
- Classic Smooth — sleek, polished, rounded ends.
- Volumizing — big root lift and bounce through the lengths.
- Beachy/Textured — loose waves and movement.
- Curled Blowout — soft, defined bends without a curling iron.
- Smoothing for textured hair — stretches and controls curls while preserving natural volume.
Your stylist should ask about your daily routine and pick a finish that fits your life.
The Blowout Mistakes I See People Making (and How to Avoid Them)
After seeing thousands of salon blowouts go well and sometimes go badly, here are the faults I see the most:
Mistake #1: Always touching your hair. I understand. Your hair looks and feels great. You want to run your fingers through it every five minutes. But every time you touch your hair, you’re putting oil from your hands onto your hair. On the second day, you’ll wonder why your blowout looks oily.
Mistake #2: Skipping the Silk Pillowcase. Cotton pillowcases make things rub against each other. Friction makes hair frizzy and tangled. A silk pillowcase that costs $20 can make your salon blowout last 2 to 3 days longer. That will be the nicest thing you ever bought.
Mistake #3: Making It Wet “Just a Little” You can’t get your blowout “just a little” wet. Water is the enemy. Put on a shower cap. Keep it safe from the rain. As soon as moisture hits your freshly styled hair, the style starts to fall apart.
Mistake #4: Using the Wrong Products at Home. Using dry shampoo too soon or too much will cause buildup. If you use conventional shampoo when you finally wash it, you’re getting rid of all the beneficial stuff. Talk to your stylist about what items will help your style last longer, and then utilize them.
